Myra Sidharta (Ew Yong Tjhoen Moy) was born in Belitung in 1927.
She is an expert in Tionghoa Malay literature, a psychologist, and a columnist for Indonesian magazines including The Jakarta Post.
She has an autobiography titled "In Search of My Ancestral Home"
Myra is married to Dr. Priguna Sidharta (Si Pek Giok) and has 3 children, Sylvia, Julie, and Amir Sidharta, who works as curator.
Myra, like many other Indonesian Chinese during that era, was educated in Dutch school. Her grandfather, an immigrant from Meixian province, Guangdong, China, was affraid that his grandchildren would lose their identity as Chinese. Therefore, he always encouraged Myra to learn Mandarin. Fortunately for Myra, there was a female Mandarin teacher staying in her grandparents house who could teach her.
She obtained a bachelor degree majoring in psychology from Rijks Universitet Leiden, Netherland.
She speaks German, Dutch, French, Mandarin, Hokkian, Malay, Indonesian Language, and English.
